The book was made in India, december 2008 - during a study stay.
The physical working conditions were OK, but it was only possible to work in peace for short periods at a time, so my project became making small drawings, that ended as 21 accordian Artists Books.
Small rubbings (patterns etc. found in the house) were made on very thin Nepal paper which were glued onto a piece of drawing paper with a birds silhouette drawn with pencil or cut out of found paper, plastic etc.
The Nepal paper sheet (9,5 x 15,5 cm) with the rubbing has got a thin layer of glue, and the paper is to thin, that the underlaying drawing of the bird, cleary appears through the Nepal paper, and the rubbing and the bird becomes a whole.
The drawing paper 12,5 x 16 cm (Fabriano 160 gr.)
The sheets are glued together with Nepal paper on the backside, to an accordian containing 6 drawings and a text side.
The back is furthermore covered with Nepal paper and the book is hold together with a handmade string of Nepal paper.
The glue used was Indian glue - with a camel on the bottle, but with unknown content.
On the back side of the cover is the following text – handwritten with pencil (in Danish):
Fugl Phønix # …. Lavet under studieophold på ”Makanne”, Udaipur, Indien dec. 2008 Birgit Daa Birkkjær
There were made 21 numbered and signed ex.
Each book is unique, as all the drawings are different.
